Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces Vodka (High-quality, unflavoured)
  • ¾ ounce Fresh Lime Juice (Must be freshly squeezed)
  • ¾ ounce Simple Syrup (1:1 ratio, equal parts granulated sugar and water)
  • Generous amount Ice (Large, dense cubes recommended)
  • 1 Lime Wheel or Twist (Optional Garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Chill the Glassware: Place the coupe or martini glass in the freezer for at least 10 minutes, or fill it with ice water while preparing the cocktail. This ensures optimal serving temperature.
  2. Prepare Simple Syrup: If not pre-made, combine equal parts hot water and granulated sugar until dissolved. Allow to cool completely before use.
  3. Juice the Lime: Measure the required ¾ ounce (22 ml) of fresh lime juice. Accuracy here is crucial for balance.
  4. Combine Ingredients: Add the vodka, fresh lime juice, and simple syrup directly into the cocktail shaker tin.
  5. Add Ice: Fill the shaker 2/3 full with fresh, large ice cubes. The colder the ice, the less dilution you’ll get, which is key to a superior cocktail.
  6. Shake Vigorously: Secure the lid and shake hard for 10–15 seconds, or until the exterior of the shaker is thoroughly frosted over. The aim is to chill quickly and achieve a slight, desirable frothiness.
  7. Discard Chilling Ice/Water: Empty the chilled glass.
  8. Strain: Double-strain the mixture into the chilled glass using a fine-mesh strainer over the shaker’s Hawthorne strainer to catch any small ice shards or pulp.
  9. Garnish: Express the oils from a lime twist over the surface of the drink before dropping it in, or simply affix a thin lime wheel to the rim. Serve immediately.
