Ingredients:
- 2 ounces Vodka (High-quality, unflavoured)
- ¾ ounce Fresh Lime Juice (Must be freshly squeezed)
- ¾ ounce Simple Syrup (1:1 ratio, equal parts granulated sugar and water)
- Generous amount Ice (Large, dense cubes recommended)
- 1 Lime Wheel or Twist (Optional Garnish)
Instructions:
- Chill the Glassware: Place the coupe or martini glass in the freezer for at least 10 minutes, or fill it with ice water while preparing the cocktail. This ensures optimal serving temperature.
- Prepare Simple Syrup: If not pre-made, combine equal parts hot water and granulated sugar until dissolved. Allow to cool completely before use.
- Juice the Lime: Measure the required ¾ ounce (22 ml) of fresh lime juice. Accuracy here is crucial for balance.
- Combine Ingredients: Add the vodka, fresh lime juice, and simple syrup directly into the cocktail shaker tin.
- Add Ice: Fill the shaker 2/3 full with fresh, large ice cubes. The colder the ice, the less dilution you’ll get, which is key to a superior cocktail.
- Shake Vigorously: Secure the lid and shake hard for 10–15 seconds, or until the exterior of the shaker is thoroughly frosted over. The aim is to chill quickly and achieve a slight, desirable frothiness.
- Discard Chilling Ice/Water: Empty the chilled glass.
- Strain: Double-strain the mixture into the chilled glass using a fine-mesh strainer over the shaker’s Hawthorne strainer to catch any small ice shards or pulp.
- Garnish: Express the oils from a lime twist over the surface of the drink before dropping it in, or simply affix a thin lime wheel to the rim. Serve immediately.
