Selene Harlow, cultural anthropologist – Global Flavors & Vibrant International Recipes Adapted for American Kitchens. Making world cuisine accessible for home cooks.

About Me:

Meet Selene Harlow

Selene's kitchen is a passport to the world. After spending over a decade traveling across six continents—living in Buenos Aires, teaching English in Thailand, working harvests in Tuscany—she returned home with notebooks full of recipes, techniques, and food memories from every corner of the globe.

Her mission at Recipes & Cook is sharing those discoveries in a way that's accessible to American home cooks. She carefully adapts international recipes to work with ingredients available at regular grocery stores, without sacrificing the authentic flavors that make each dish special.

Her Culinary Philosophy

Background & Expertise

Selene holds a degree in cultural anthropology with a focus on food traditions, which she's combined with hands-on cooking education from around the world. She's taken pasta-making classes in Bologna, curry workshops in Mumbai, and dumpling lessons in Shanghai. She's also a certified sommelier, adding wine pairing expertise to her culinary toolkit.

Before joining Recipes & Cook, Selene wrote for travel and food publications, authored a cookbook on Southeast Asian home cooking, and led culinary tours in Mexico and Morocco. She brings that rich background to every recipe, ensuring you get not just instructions but inspiration.

When not developing recipes, Selene tends her extensive herb garden, practices her (admittedly mediocre) Spanish, and hosts monthly international dinner nights where friends explore new cuisines together. She believes that cooking food from other cultures is an act of connection and curiosity.
